Planning Umrah Around the UK School Calendar

For most UK families, the school calendar decides when Umrah can happen. The trouble is that the school year and the Saudi Umrah season do not always line up. Some breaks are ideal, some fall in Ramadan, and one, Easter, now falls inside the Umrah closure before Hajj. This page sets out every school holiday for 2026/27, what is possible in each one, and what it will cost.

Our holiday Umrah packages start from £560 per person and include flights, visas, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, and transfers. You can also add a few days of rest or sightseeing after your Umrah.

These are starting prices. Holiday weeks are the busiest of the year, so prices rise as flights fill. The earlier you book, the closer you will be to these figures.

The dates below are typical for England. Your council’s dates may differ by a few days, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own calendars.

October Umrah Packages: Half Term 2026

The October half term runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026 in most of England. Taking the weekends either side gives you nine days, which fits a 7-day Umrah package with a day to spare on each side.

Our October Umrah packages suit families who want a quieter trip. October is still warm in Makkah, with daytime highs of around 40°C easing to about 26°C at night, so plan tawaf for after Fajr or late in the evening. Crowds are moderate, much lighter than December or Ramadan.

Book now. Direct flights to Jeddah for half term fill up early, so book as soon as your dates are fixed. Scottish schools take their October break earlier, usually in mid-October, so tell us your council area.

February Umrah Packages: Half Term 2027 in Ramadan

The February half term falls between 15 and 19 February 2027, and Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027. So Umrah in February this year is a Ramadan Umrah, with Taraweeh in Masjid al-Haram and iftar in Madinah.

It is a special time to take children, and the weather is mild at around 33°C. It is also the most expensive time of year, and you will be fasting during the day while travelling and performing the rites. Many families with younger children choose a shorter stay and a hotel close to the Haram. Our Ramadan Umrah packages page has full dates and prices.

Easter Umrah Packages 2027: Why the Easter Holidays Don’t Work This Year

Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027, and in most of England the Easter holidays begin around 26 March. But the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set 23 March 2027 as the last day for Umrah pilgrims to enter the country before Hajj, with all Umrah pilgrims leaving by 7 April. That means a normal Easter Umrah package is not possible in 2027, even though many websites still advertise Easter holiday Umrah packages for these dates.

You still have options:

• Travel before 23 March. If your child’s school, or an independent school, breaks up earlier, or you can take a few days in term time, we can arrange a trip that arrives before the cut-off.
• Go in the February half term instead. You get Ramadan in Makkah and milder weather.
• Plan for the summer. The new Umrah season is expected to open after Hajj, ready for the summer holidays.

This will not change soon. Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year, so the pre-Hajj closure will cover the Easter holidays for the next few years too. We will always confirm the latest Nusuk and Ministry dates before you book.

Summer Umrah Packages 2027: June, July and August

The summer holidays give families the longest break, and many choose a 14-day Umrah. The new Umrah season is expected to open shortly after Hajj 2027, well before UK schools break up in late July.

Our July and August Umrah packages are usually the longest trips families take with us. Umrah in July or August means real heat: Makkah averages around 43°C and nights stay around 30°C. That does not stop thousands of British families going every summer, but it does change how you plan:

• Choose a closer hotel. A short walk at noon in August is very different from one in December.
• Do tawaf and sa’i at night or after Fajr. The marble floors in the Haram stay cooler, but the walk outside does not.
• Drink more than you think. Zamzam stations are everywhere inside the masjid.
• Rest in the afternoon. Plan around Dhuhr and Asr in the hotel when it is hottest.

Summer flights are the dearest of the year, especially the first weekend after schools break up. Leaving midweek, or at the end of August, often saves money.

May Half Term 2027

The May half term, 31 May to 4 June 2027, falls just after Hajj. The current season opened on 31 May 2026, so this break may well be possible, but it depends on the 1449H calendar, which has not been announced yet. Adding a Holiday to Your Umrah

Some families like to add a few days of rest after Umrah, especially on a 14-day summer trip. Popular options include:

• Jeddah: the Corniche, the old town of Al-Balad and seaside hotels, easy to reach from Makkah.
• Taif: a hill city about 1,800 metres above sea level, noticeably cooler than Makkah in summer.
• A stopover on the way home: ask us about breaking your return journey.

• Book as soon as dates are fixed. Holiday flights rise in price week by week.
• Check your school’s exact dates. Councils and academies vary by a day or two.
• Think about the weather. October and summer are hot. December and February are mild.
• Leave time for vaccinations. Every traveller needs a MenACWY certificate with the jab given at least 10 days before arrival.
• Share rooms. Quad and triple rooms keep the cost down for families.
